Noroton is the central-southern part of Darien — the residential heart of the town between the Tokeneke estate area to the west and the Five Mile River neighborhood to the east, south of downtown Darien and Noroton Heights. It's mostly single-family housing: mid-century colonials, ranches, capes, with older stock layered through and newer construction periodically replacing tear-down properties. Noroton Bay sits along the southern coastal edge, with the residential blocks running north from there toward Post Road.

What kind of dumpster work happens in Noroton?

Noroton's housing era and project mix are typical for central Darien:

Kitchen and bath renovations. Single-room kitchen reno in a Noroton colonial: 15-yard. Whole-floor or kitchen-plus-bath scope: 20-yard. Newer Noroton construction (1980s and later) has drywall-era demo; older blocks with pre-war housing have heavier plaster-and-lath demo and benefit from sizing up.

Basement cleanouts. Common across Noroton's family-home stock as parents downsize and adult kids prep the family house for listing or move-in. 15-yard handles most. Older homes near the bay sometimes have damp-basement cleanout work that includes mold-remediation debris — flag this at booking.

Garage cleanouts. Two-car garages dominate newer Noroton stock; single-car on older blocks. 15-yard for single; 20-yard for two-car with decades of accumulation.

Pre-listing cleanouts. Active Darien real-estate market means consistent pre-sale prep — household goods cleanout plus minor refresh work. 15-yard handles most pre-listing scope.

Roof tear-offs. Single-layer asphalt on a typical Noroton colonial: 20-yard. Two-layer or larger property: 30/40-yard.

Deck demos. Noroton Bay coastal blocks generate steady deck-demo work. Lumber by volume in a 15-yard or 20-yard; concrete piers and footings in a 10-yard for weight.

Streets and landmarks in Noroton

Noroton Avenue runs through the central area as a north-south spine. Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Hecker Avenue, Sedgwick Avenue, and Brookside Drive host much of the residential housing. Old Kings Highway South runs along the northern edge of Noroton, connecting toward Noroton Heights.

Noroton Bay is the southern coastal landmark — a small bay opening to Long Island Sound, with a few private boating clubs and the residential blocks running north from there. The neighborhood doesn't have its own train station; closest stops are Darien (downtown, central) and Noroton Heights (north).

Standard Darien base rates:

• 10-yard ($447) — single-bath remodel, half-garage cleanout, soil/stone/brick loads from a small landscape job.
• 15-yard ($547) — Noroton's most common size. Single-kitchen reno, basement cleanout, single-car-garage cleanout.
• 20-yard ($647) — whole-house declutter, two-room renovation, two-car-garage cleanout, single-layer roof tear-off.
• 30/40-yard ($899) — major renovation, two-layer roof tear-off, full pre-war gut-rehab (less common in Noroton than Tokeneke).

Noroton placement notes

Most Noroton driveways take a 20-yard cleanly. Things to know:

• Older blocks near Tokeneke. Some Noroton blocks west toward Tokeneke have narrower driveways from earlier construction. A 10-yard or 15-yard fits where a 20-yard pinches.
• Coastal blocks near Noroton Bay. Some properties have stone-edged driveways or paver work — plank under the wheels for non-asphalt surfaces.
• Cul-de-sacs. A few short streets terminate in cul-de-sacs that don't have room for a delivery-truck pull-around. Back-set the can closer to the through-road.
• Vertical clearance. Long Noroton Avenue driveways occasionally pinch on overhead clearance from mature trees. Walk the approach if photos look marginal.

Permits for Noroton placements
