Greenfield Hill is the part of Fairfield that operationally most resembles Greenwich's Backcountry — multi-acre estate properties on long wooded driveways, septic + private well infrastructure, mature canopy trees, and project shapes that run weeks rather than days. Bronson Road, Hulls Highway, and Sturges Highway are the spines through the area. The Greenfield Hill Village center sits near Hulls Highway / Bronson Road, anchored by the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church (1771) and the Greenfield Hill Historic District. The neighborhood extends north from the Merritt Parkway up toward the Easton town line.

This is the longest dispatch in our Tier 1 service area — about 30–35 minutes from Stamford. We've worked Greenfield Hill since 2014. The work mix matches Greenwich's Belle Haven, Darien's Tokeneke, New Canaan's Smith Ridge, Westport's Greens Farms more than the rest of Fairfield — gut-rehabs between owners, slate roof tear-offs, large landscape projects, multi-week swap-rotation dispatches.

What's different about Greenfield Hill dumpster work?

Greenfield Hill dispatches require more pre-delivery coordination than typical Fairfield placements:

Septic + well infrastructure. Most Greenfield Hill properties aren't on town water or sewer. Driveways often run past leach fields, well caps, and sometimes oil tank fills. We avoid placing the heavy end of a loaded roll-off over a leach field — both because of the weight and because we don't want to mark the field's location.

Long driveways with mature tree canopy. Greenfield Hill driveways routinely run 200+ feet from the street to the garage, often past 100-year-old canopy trees. Vertical clearance for a loaded delivery truck (~22 feet) can pinch under old branches; we walk the approach when photos suggest tight overhead.

Sloped driveways winding to hilltop houses. Many Greenfield Hill properties sit on elevated lots with driveways that pitch up sharply, sometimes through multiple grade changes. We cross-place the can on grade.

Historic-district considerations. The Greenfield Hill Historic District (centered around the 1771 Congregational Church) includes properties with historical-preservation considerations. Building department coordination on historic-property renovations is more involved than in less-regulated Fairfield blocks.

Multi-week project timelines. Greenfield Hill projects rarely finish in seven days. Pre-war estate gut-rehabs run weeks; full-property cleanouts run weeks to months. Swap rotations are the norm.

Common Greenfield Hill project types

Greenfield Hill has the heaviest estate-scale dispatch pattern in Fairfield:

• Pre-war estate gut-rehabs. Multi-week 30/40-yard swap schedules. Stone foundations, plaster-and-lath, slate roofs.
• Whole-house cleanouts before sale. Multi-acre estates that turn over generationally.
• Slate and copper roof tear-offs. Older estate stock with slate roofs reaching end-of-life. 30/40-yard at minimum.
• Pool and pool-deck demos. Older in-ground pools. Concrete and pavers in 10-yards for weight; lumber and landscape in 20-yards.
• Large landscape projects. Multi-acre properties generate hedge removals, mature-tree work, sod replacements, terrace and stonewall rebuilds.
• Major addition demos. Older estate homes with mid-century additions reaching service-life end.

Streets and landmarks in Greenfield Hill

Bronson Road runs through the area as the main residential spine. Hulls Highway and Sturges Highway are major north-south corridors. Old Academy Road, Hulls Farm Road, and Greenfield Hill Road host residential housing on smaller (still acreage-scale) lots.

Landmarks: Greenfield Hill Congregational Church (1771, the historic anchor), Greenfield Hill Historic District (near Hulls Highway / Bronson Road intersection), Lake Mohegan (regional landmark just over the Westport line west), Greenfield Hill Grange. The Easton town line defines the northern boundary.

Greenfield Hill placement notes

Greenfield Hill is one of the most placement-walked Fairfield neighborhoods:

• Vertical clearance from mature trees. The biggest constraint.
• Slope. Cross-place on grade.
• Septic + well. Stay clear of leach fields and well caps.
• Long-driveway access for swap rotations. Plan swap windows around property daily-use patterns.
• Stonework. Estate driveways often have granite curbing or paver fields. Always plank.
• Historic-district considerations. Some Greenfield Hill Historic District properties have preservation-review processes that affect renovation timelines.

Permits for Greenfield Hill placements

Greenfield Hill is overwhelmingly private-driveway placements: no Town permit required. Exceptions:

• Curbside placements on Bronson Road, Hulls Highway, or Sturges Highway: Fairfield DPW coordination at (203) 256-3177. Rare in Greenfield Hill — most properties have driveways that fit any size.
• Hulls Highway and parts of other corridors are state routes in some sections. Check whether the placement is in Town or state right-of-way.
