Quick version: Junk removal in Connecticut runs $145 to $795 depending on how much of our truck your job fills. Thirteen tiers in between, priced by actual truck-space used at the end of the work. Same rates across our entire service area — no zone pricing, no fuel surcharge, no per-item nickel-and-diming. Here's the full breakdown.

How junk removal pricing actually works

Most CT haulers price junk removal one of three ways:

  1. Per-item. A couch is $X, a fridge is $Y, a chair is $Z, etc. Looks transparent up front; turns into an argument on site about what counts as one piece (a sectional couch — is that three couches or one?).
  2. Hourly. $X per crew-hour. Looks straightforward; incentivizes slow loading and creates scope creep without a price cap.
  3. Truck-space. What we do. The truck is 20 cubic yards. Your job fills some fraction of it. The fraction maps to a published tier. The tier is the price.

Truck-space pricing measures the only thing that actually matters for the hauling cost: how full the truck is when we leave. Heavy material, light material, stairs, long carries, mid-century furniture vs. modern flat-pack — all of it lands in the same volume math. We quote the tier on the call (often from a photo or a brief description), confirm it on site before loading begins, and bill at the confirmed tier. No mid-job surprises.

Our truck

We show up with a 20 cubic yard truck — bigger than the standard 15-17 cubic yard industry truck, so you can toss more for less. More volume per dispatch means fewer trips, lower aggregate cost on bigger jobs, and predictable sizing math when we tier the truck-load pricing. The two-man crew rides with the truck.

The 13 tiers

TierPriceVolume
Minimum$145A single mattress, an old appliance, a small pile of junk at the curb
1/8 truck$195One large piece + a few smaller items
1/6 truck$245Single-room partial cleanout
1/4 truck$295Typical garage cleanout or partial basement
1/3 truck$345Studio apartment or single-room full cleanout
3/8 truck$395Small apartment cleanout
1/2 truck$445Apartment-sized cleanout, single-room renovation debris
5/8 truck$495Two-bedroom partial cleanout
2/3 truck$545Two-bedroom full cleanout
3/4 truck$595Single-family decluttering, large estate room
7/8 truck$695Multi-room residential, larger renovation debris
Full truck$795Full-property cleanouts, whole-home work

Beyond a single truckload, larger jobs run multi-trip — same per-trip pricing, no volume discount. Most full-house estate cleanouts run 2-3 trips total ($1,500-$2,500 typical), with hoarder-condition or whole-property jobs running higher. See estate cleanout cost in CT for the multi-day workflow.

What changes the price (and what doesn't)

What changes the price:

  • Volume. This is the main variable. More truck-space = higher tier.
  • CFC appliances (refrigerators, freezers, AC units, dehumidifiers). $50 flat add-on per unit — passes through the transfer station's CFC handling fee.
  • Mattresses. $50 each at the transfer station, BUT Connecticut runs a free statewide mattress recycling program. For single mattresses, the free program almost always beats the pass-through fee. We route through it where convenient.
  • Tires. $50 each at the transfer station for tires loaded onto the truck (auto tires only).
  • Hazardous waste. We can't take it. Period. Paint, motor oil, gasoline, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, batteries, asbestos. CT runs municipal hazmat collection days through most towns — we'll point you to the right channel.

What doesn't change the price:

  • Stairs and walk-ups. Truck-space pricing absorbs the labor difference.
  • Long carries. Same.
  • Town location. Same rates across our entire service area — Stamford, Hartford, Torrington, Bridgeport, Bedford NY, all priced identically.
  • Same-day vs. next-day. No urgency surcharge.
  • Weekends. Same rates. We dispatch 7 days a week.
  • Time of day. Same rates morning, afternoon, or evening pickup.

Common job examples

Here's what the pricing actually looks like for real CT jobs we run regularly:

Single mattress + box spring. $145 minimum tier. (For free, route through the CT mattress program directly.)

Old refrigerator + washer/dryer. $295 — quarter-truck tier, with $50 CFC pass-through for the fridge = $345 total.

Garage cleanout, single-car suburban. $295-$445 range. Most fall in the $345-$395 band.

Basement cleanout after a clear-out weekend. $495-$695 range. Heavier loads hit the upper tiers because of accumulated furniture + boxed storage volume.

Studio or one-bedroom apartment move-out cleanout. $295-$535 range. See our apartment move-out cleanouts post for the last-day-of-lease workflow.

Two-bedroom apartment cleanout. $455-$795 range.

Single-family 3-bedroom estate cleanout. $1,200-$3,200 total across 2-3 truckloads. See estate cleanout cost in CT.

Whole-home cleanout, 5-bedroom + basement + garage. $3,200-$8,000 across multiple days. See whole-home cleanouts.

Pre-listing decluttering, single-family. $445-$1,400 depending on scope. See pre-listing cleanouts.

Hot tub removal. Junk removal half of the job: $295-$595 depending on size. See hot tub removal cost in CT for the full walkthrough.

When a dumpster beats junk removal

Junk removal is the right call when:

  • You don't want to load the bin yourself
  • The project is single-session (one afternoon, one day)
  • Volume is small to medium (under ~10 cubic yards)
  • Access is tricky (basement, attic, second floor walk-up)
  • You'd rather pay for the truck-space used than rent a container

A roll-off dumpster rental wins when:

  • You're doing the loading yourself
  • The project runs multi-day
  • You can park a bin near the work
  • Volume is over ~10 cubic yards
  • A contractor is already on site

Rough threshold: under 5 yd³ of stuff you don't want to load → junk removal. Over 10 yd³ and you've got time to fill it → dumpster. Between 5 and 10 yd³ — call us, and we'll tell you which fits better. We don't have a quota; we'll send you to the cheaper option if that's the right call. See junk removal vs. dumpster rental: which do you actually need? for the full decision framework, and dumpster rental cost in CT for the sister umbrella on dumpster pricing.

Why the same job costs the same in Stamford as Hartford (but the wait is different)

Pricing is identical across our service area. What varies is scheduling:

  • Fairfield County — our home turf. Stamford depot dispatches across all 21 Fairfield towns at 15-50 minutes drive. Same-day-default for any pre-11-AM call.
  • New Haven County — West Haven yard sits inside it. 10-30 min drives. Same-day default.
  • Lower Westchester NY — 20-40 min from Stamford depot. Same-day default for the 17 NY locations we cover (Port Chester, Rye, Bedford, etc.). See the junk-removal local pages for town-by-town context.
  • Hartford County — 50-80 min from West Haven yard. Next-day default; same-day possible for early calls to closer towns (Bristol, New Britain, Newington).
  • Litchfield County — split-depot (Stamford for far-NW, West Haven for closer-in). Drive times 35-90 min. Most of Litchfield is next-day default.
  • Middlesex + lower New London — West Haven dispatch, 30-55 min. Same-day works for closer towns, next-day for further.

The pricing reality: $145-$795 same everywhere. The dispatch reality: how fast we can get there varies by depot drive time. We tell you on the phone what the realistic same-day vs. next-day window looks like — see our same-day vs. next-day post for the operator-honest version.
