We dispatch Old Lyme from our West Haven yard, about 40 minutes door-to-door from our West Haven yard via I-95 east, exit 70. Old Lyme sits at the east bank of the CT River mouth — Sound View beach community, Old Lyme Center historic district, Florence Griswold Museum, and shoreline residential. Weekend-home and tourist economy drives renovation prep work spring through fall. Most of our Old Lyme work is weekend-home renovation prep or estate cleanouts when older NY/CT shore-property owners pass or sell. Over 16,000 dumpster drops and junk-removal jobs since 2014, across Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, and lower New London counties. This page is what I tell Old Lyme homeowners and contractors when they call.

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Old Lyme?

Roll-off dumpster rentals in Old Lyme use up-front pricing. The price doesn't change between Old Lyme Center and Rogers Lake area — size sets the rate, not the address. The base rate covers delivery, pickup, dumping at a licensed transfer station, and a 7-day rental window. We don't surcharge for "longer driveways" or "harder access," and the Old Lyme dispatch from our West Haven yard is built into the base rate, not added on top.

Four sizes cover almost every Old Lyme project. The 10-yard runs $447, right for small bath remodels or concrete-and-dirt loads. The 15-yard runs $547, the sweet spot for single-room renovations and full garage cleanouts. The 20-yard runs $647, the most-common pick for whole-house decluttering, single-layer roof tear-offs, and contractor work. The 30/40-yard runs $899 — delivered as two 20-yard cans (same-day or swapped) for full additions, multi-room renovations, and commercial buildouts. Full pricing reference at How Pricing Works.

What size dumpster do I need for Old Lyme projects?

Single-bath remodel: 10-yard at $447. Standard Old Lyme bath gut.

Kitchen reno or weekend-home prep: 15-yard at $547. Most-common rental — coastal cottage kitchen renos generate steady spring + fall dispatch.

Whole-house decluttering, estate cleanout: 20-yard at $647. Estate cleanouts at older shore properties are common 20-yard work.

Major contractor work, large estate cleanouts: 30/40-yard at $899. Two 20-yard cans — useful for tighter shore lots where a single 30 wouldn't fit.

Where can I put a dumpster in Old Lyme?

Old Lyme Center historic district is the placement constraint — the colonial-era Lyme Street area has tight blocks with preservation context. We frequently recommend the 10-yard for any historic-district work.

Sound View, Point O' Woods, Hatchett's Reef are beach-community neighborhoods with tighter older cottage parcels — driveway depths vary; some shore lots can't host a 20-yard. We recommend the 10-yard or 15-yard for shore placement.

Black Hall, Mile Creek, Rogers Lake area have more rural-residential character with longer driveways.

State route placement along US-1 (Boston Post Road), Route 156, or I-95 service roads needs a CT DOT Encroachment Permit.

For lawn placement, we put planks under the wheels. Minor turf compression is normal. We don't recommend lawn drops if it's been raining — soft ground doesn't hold a loaded box. Snap a photo of the driveway entrance from the street and text it to (203) 219-8855 if you're not sure about clearance or approach.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Old Lyme?

Old Lyme is about a 40-minute run from our West Haven yard via I-95 east, exit 70 — closer-band East CT shoreline dispatch. We run Old Lyme jobs next-day default. Same-day is sometimes possible if you call before 9 AM and our morning I-95 east dispatch has capacity. East CT shoreline is genuinely further than the New Haven County interior we cover same-day reliably, but we still want to honestly offer same-day when our route works it. Delivery and pickup windows fall between 8 AM and 4 PM. Call (203) 219-8855 — live Mon–Fri 8 AM – 4 PM, AI assistant covers after-hours and weekends.

What about the Old Lyme Transfer Station?

Old Lyme's transfer station is at 109 Four Mile River Road (near I-95 exit 71), open Tuesday–Friday 7:30 AM–3:45 PM and Saturday 8:30 AM–4 PM (closed Sun/Mon) per oldlyme-ct.gov. Phone (860) 434-2337; Selectman's Office (860) 434-1605 ext. 212. Free windshield stickers for Old Lyme taxpayers — pick up at the First Selectman's Office in Town Hall with vehicle registration. Old Lyme participates in SCRRRA regional waste planning.

For Old Lyme residents weighing self-haul against a Grizzly roll-off, the math runs roughly the same as in any New London County town: a self-haul is your time, your truck, and the per-load fees the town sets at the gate. A 10-yard at $447 base delivered to your Old Lyme driveway, picked up, and dumped covers everything in one shot. The roll-off wins fast for anything over a couple of pickup-truck loads.

The transfer station does not accept hazardous waste — paint, solvents, oil, pesticides, lithium batteries. Those go through CT DEEP collection days.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Old Lyme, CT?

Private property — your driveway, your land: no permit required. Standard residential Old Lyme case outside the historic district. Public street, sidewalk, or town right-of-way: coordinate with the Old Lyme First Selectman's Office (860) 434-1605 ext. 212 at Town Hall per oldlyme-ct.gov; transfer station line (860) 434-2337 routes waste questions. Old Lyme Center historic-district placement may have additional review given preservation context — confirm with the town before booking on Lyme Street or near the green. State route placement along US-1 or Route 156 needs a CT DOT Encroachment Permit instead.

What customers in Old Lyme are saying

  • Y
Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.

Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.

It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.
