Compo is the southwestern coastal area of Westport — anchored by Compo Beach (the residents-only public beach) and threaded with shoreline residential blocks running north from the Sound. Compo Beach Road, Compo South Road, Compo Hill Avenue, Soundview Avenue, and Hillspoint Road define the central streets. Sherwood Island State Park sits just east of Compo along the shoreline. The neighborhood's housing leans older shoreline single-family stock with mid-century rebuilds and increasingly larger newer construction layered through.

What kind of dumpster work happens in Compo?

A few project types come up week-over-week, similar to other Tier 1 shoreline neighborhoods (Old Greenwich, Tokeneke):

Estate cleanouts. Compo's older shoreline housing turns over generationally; full-property contents-out work runs steadily. 20-yard for the volume; junk-removal crew for heavy items.

Deck demos. Coastal blocks generate steady deck-demo work. Pressure-treated, composite, occasional original redwood. Lumber by volume in 15- or 20-yards; concrete piers and footings in 10-yards for weight.

Hot tub removals. Older shoreline decks frequently host hot tubs that have outlived the deck. Pull, drain, disassemble, haul. Often paired with a roll-off if the deck is coming down at the same time.

Single-bath and kitchen renovations. Older Compo capes and shoreline cottages hit their renovation cycles steadily. 10-yard for single-bath; 15-yard for kitchen reno; 20-yard for multi-room scope.

Pre-listing prep. As Compo housing turns over, pre-listing cleanout bookings run alongside curb-appeal landscape and minor refresh work. 15-yard for the household-goods side; 20-yard if the basement and garage are also coming out.

Storm and tree-work cleanup. Coastal blocks see periodic storm-related yard debris that needs to be hauled. Yard waste fits a 15- or 20-yard well; heavier wet wood and root balls go in a 10-yard for weight.

Newer construction tear-downs. Some Compo tear-down-and-rebuild projects happen — 30/40-yard for the original-home demo.

Streets and landmarks in Compo

Compo Beach Road runs south through the neighborhood toward Compo Beach itself. Compo South Road defines the section south of Hillspoint Road. Compo Hill Avenue runs through the central residential blocks. Soundview Avenue and Hillspoint Road host residential housing along the shoreline edge. Owenoke Park (a small public greenspace) is in the area.

Landmarks: Compo Beach (the residents-only public beach at the southern shoreline), Sherwood Island State Park (just east along the coast), Minute Man statue at Compo Beach (Revolutionary War landmark — British landed here in 1777). The neighborhood doesn't have a Metro-North station; closest is Westport (downtown) station to the north.

Sizing for Compo projects

Standard Westport base rates:

  • 10-yard ($447) — single-bath remodel, half-garage cleanout, soil/stone/brick loads from a small landscape job, deck-footing concrete.
  • 15-yard ($547) — single-room kitchen reno, basement cleanout in an older Compo cape, deck-lumber from a small or medium deck demo.
  • 20-yard ($647) — whole-house declutter, full deck demo (including footings), single-layer roof tear-off, estate-cleanout volume.
  • 30/40-yard ($899) — large estate property gut-rehab, two-layer roof tear-off, slate-roof tear-off, tear-down demo.

For full sizing logic see the Westport hub or the /dumpsters reference page.

Compo placement notes

Most Compo driveways take a 20-yard cleanly. The placement specifics:

  • Older asphalt driveways with mature landscaping. Boxwoods, hedges, mature rhododendrons that have grown into the lane. We back-set the can closer to the street rather than push deep past the landscaping.
  • Stone-edged and paver driveways. Common on higher-end Compo properties. Plank under the wheels.
  • Steep approaches. Some properties pitch down toward the water; we cross-place the can on grade rather than line it down.
  • Coastal proximity. Shoreline-property placements include confirmation of safe distance from seawall or bulkhead infrastructure and septic systems on older properties.

We bring 2x12 boards on request for stone-edged or paver driveways.

Permits for Compo placements

Compo is mostly residential driveway placements: no permit required. Same Westport permit logic for the exceptions — DPW Dumpster Permit on Town Property for street placements; CT DOT Encroachment Permit for any placement on Post Road state right-of-way (rare in Compo). Compo Beach dumpster rental FAQs

Where is Compo in Westport?
Compo Beach is the southwestern shoreline area of Westport along Long Island Sound. Compo Beach (the public beach, residents-only) anchors the southern edge. Compo Beach Road and Compo South Road thread through the residential blocks. Compo South is the section of Compo south of Hillspoint Road. Sherwood Island State Park is just east along the shoreline.
What size dumpster fits a Compo Beach property?
Most shoreline residential renovations run a 20-yard ($647). Older Compo estate cleanouts sometimes need 30/40-yard ($899) with a swap schedule. Single-room kitchen or bath renos go 15-yard. Hot-tub removals and deck demos are regular requests — paired with a roll-off if the deck is coming down.
Are there waterfront placement considerations near Compo Beach?
Yes. Properties along the Sound shoreline edge have placement walks that include riparian setbacks, septic infrastructure on older properties, and (for some properties) seawall or bulkhead proximity. Sherwood Island State Park-adjacent properties also factor coastal access timing into placement scheduling.
Can a dumpster damage stone-edged or paver Compo driveways?
Not if we plank it. Many Compo Beach properties have stone-edged driveways or paver work; we put 2x12 boards under the wheels and the heavy end on request — say so when you book. Asphalt driveways take a roll-off without protection. Stone, paver, and stamped concrete should always be planked.
How fast can you deliver to Compo?
About 22 minutes from our Woodchuck Road depot in North Stamford via I-95 Exit 17 and the Compo Beach Road approach. Same-day if you call before 11 AM. We run trucks through Compo regularly during summer (peak shoreline-property work) and shoulder seasons (renovation work).
