We dispatch New Britain from our West Haven yard, about 40 minutes door-to-door from our West Haven yard via Route 9 north. New Britain's downtown density and post-industrial housing stock mean street-placement permit cases come up more often than in the surrounding suburbs. Most of our New Britain jobs are contractor work — kitchen renos in West End, multi-family turnovers in downtown, demo work in the older industrial neighborhoods. The CCSU campus area also generates regular student-rental cleanout work in late spring. Over 16,000 dumpster drops and junk-removal jobs since 2014, across Fairfield, New Haven, and Hartford counties. This page is what I tell New Britain homeowners and contractors when they call.

How much does a dumpster rental cost in New Britain?

Roll-off dumpster rentals in New Britain use up-front pricing. The price doesn't change between Downtown and Stanley Quarter — size sets the rate, not the address. The base rate covers delivery, pickup, dumping at a licensed transfer station, and a 7-day rental window. We don't surcharge for "longer driveways" or "harder access," and the New Britain dispatch from our West Haven yard is built into the base rate, not added on top.

Four sizes cover almost every New Britain project. The 10-yard runs $447, right for small bath remodels or concrete-and-dirt loads. The 15-yard runs $547, the sweet spot for single-room renovations and full garage cleanouts. The 20-yard runs $647, the most-common pick for whole-house decluttering, single-layer roof tear-offs, and contractor work. The 30/40-yard runs $899 — delivered as two 20-yard cans (same-day or swapped) for full additions, multi-room renovations, and commercial buildouts. Full pricing reference at How Pricing Works.

What size dumpster do I need for New Britain projects?

Single-bath remodel or small concrete tear-up: 10-yard at $447. West End and East Side single-bath gut jobs fit cleanly. The post-industrial blocks generate occasional concrete walkway tear-up — the 10-yard's weight ceiling is sized for that.

Kitchen reno or single-room remodel: 15-yard at $547. New Britain's older housing stock (a lot of the city's residential is pre-1940) means kitchen renos often involve plaster-and-lath wall removal. Plaster runs heavy; the 15-yard handles the mixed debris with weight buffer.

Whole-house decluttering or multi-family turnover: 20-yard at $647. Estate cleanouts in the older neighborhoods and downtown multi-family turnovers fit this size. Most CCSU-adjacent student-rental cleanouts also fit a 20-yard cleanly.

Full addition or major contractor job: 30/40-yard at $899. Delivered as two 20-yard cans (same-day side-by-side or swapped), which works well for tight downtown New Britain driveways where a single 30 wouldn't fit.

Where can I put a dumpster in New Britain?

Driveway placement is straightforward for most of West End and the residential South End — typical mid-century driveway depths handle 10s, 15s, and 20s. Downtown New Britain is where it gets tight. Tenement blocks along Main Street and Broad Street often have no usable private driveway, which puts the can on the street or sidewalk — that's a permit conversation with New Britain Public Works (860) 826-3350 at 27 West Main Street. They issue street-obstruction permits for ROW placement per newbritainct.gov.

Multi-family blocks in the Belvedere / Corbin Heights / Stanley Quarter areas have shared driveways for 2-3 units; placement requires landlord coordination. Tell us at booking who's authorizing the placement.

Route 9 and Route 72 placement: if your property fronts a state route and the dumpster would sit in the state right-of-way, that's a CT DOT Encroachment Permit instead of the city Street Use Permit. Uncommon for residential, more common for commercial sites along the Route 72 corridor.

For lawn placement, we put planks under the wheels. Minor turf compression is normal. We don't recommend lawn drops if it's been raining — soft ground doesn't hold a loaded box. Snap a photo of the driveway entrance from the street and text it to (203) 219-8855 if you're not sure about clearance or approach.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster in New Britain?

New Britain is about a 40-minute run from our West Haven yard via Route 9 north — one of the closer-in Hartford County towns we dispatch to. We run New Britain jobs next-day default. Same-day is sometimes possible if you call before 9 AM and our morning route has capacity, but Hartford County is genuinely further than the New Haven County interior we cover same-day reliably, and we'd rather be honest about that than over-promise and miss a delivery window. Delivery and pickup windows fall between 8 AM and 4 PM — we do our best to accommodate earlier or later requests when the schedule allows. Call (203) 219-8855 — live Mon–Fri 8 AM – 4 PM, AI assistant covers after-hours and weekends.

What about the New Britain Transfer Station?

New Britain operates a transfer station at 642 Christian Lane, open Monday–Friday 7 AM–2:30 PM with seasonal Saturday hours April–November per newbritainct.gov. Department of Public Works (860) 826-3350 handles resident-permit details and commercial-vs-residential rate distinctions. The city is part of the wider Hartford County regional waste-management corridor; some commercial operators route to MIRA-area facilities depending on material.

For New Britain residents weighing self-haul against a Grizzly roll-off, the math runs roughly the same as in any Hartford County town: a self-haul is your time, your truck, and the per-load fees the town sets at the gate. A 10-yard at $447 base delivered to your New Britain driveway, picked up, and dumped covers everything in one shot. The roll-off wins fast for anything over a couple of pickup-truck loads.

The transfer station does not accept hazardous waste — paint, solvents, oil, pesticides, lithium batteries. Those go through CT DEEP collection days.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in New Britain, CT?

Private property — your driveway, your land: no permit required. That's the typical case in West End and the residential South End. Public street, sidewalk, or city right-of-way: yes — submit a Street Obstruction Permit application to the New Britain Department of Public Works (860) 826-3350, 27 West Main Street per newbritainct.gov. The street-permit case comes up regularly given New Britain's downtown density — many downtown buildings don't have usable private driveways. Plan a few business days for permit processing. State route placement along Route 9 or Route 72 needs a CT DOT Encroachment Permit instead.

Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.

Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.

It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.

New Britain dumpster rental FAQs

How fast can you deliver a dumpster to New Britain?
Next-day default. New Britain runs about 40 minutes from our West Haven yard via Route 9 north — one of the closer Hartford County towns, but Hartford County dispatches don't get the same same-day reliability we run for the New Haven County interior. Same-day is sometimes possible for early calls when our morning route has capacity. Call (203) 219-8855 — live Mon–Fri 8 AM – 4 PM, AI assistant covers after-hours and weekends.
Do you cover the downtown / Main Street area?
Yes, but street placement downtown almost always needs a city Street Use Permit because many downtown buildings don't have usable private driveways. We'll talk through the placement at booking — sometimes a side street alley works, sometimes the permit is the cleanest path. We don't pull permits for customers — that's an in-person trip to New Britain Public Works.
What's the most common size for kitchen renos in New Britain?
15-yard at $547 is the sweet spot. New Britain's older housing stock means a lot of kitchen renos involve plaster-and-lath wall removal — plaster runs heavy, so the 15's 1-ton weight allowance plus the volume buffer over a 10-yard usually works. If the kitchen is unusually small or the demo is purely cabinet replacement (no wall work), a 10-yard at $447 might work.
Are there extra charges for the New Britain drive?
No. We don't zone-price. The 40-minute dispatch from our West Haven yard is already in the published base rate — $447 / $547 / $647 / $899 by size, same as Greenwich or New Haven.
Can I rent a dumpster for CCSU-adjacent rental cleanouts?
Yes — student-rental and small multi-family cleanouts are some of our most common New Britain work in late spring. 20-yard at $647 fits most full-apartment turnovers. For multiple units on the same property, two cans (or the 30/40-yard tier as two 20s) is usually the right move.
Do you take concrete or brick from sidewalk tear-up?
Yes, in a 10-yard. Concrete and masonry are weight-constrained, not volume-constrained, so the 10-yard is the right size — the road-legal weight limit caps at about 4-6 tons regardless of which size we deliver. Don't book a 15 or 20 for pure concrete; you'd pay more for capacity we can't legally haul once loaded.
