We dispatch Winchester from our West Haven yard, about 65 minutes door-to-door from our West Haven yard via Route 8 north + Route 44. Winchester includes the Winsted village section — the main population center along Main Street with the historic district nearby. Mix of older industrial housing stock plus rural acreage in the wider town of Winchester. Population ~10,500 across Winsted + surrounding rural area. ~65 minutes via Route 8 north + Route 44. This is the edge of our regular service radius — confirm specific job shapes at booking. Over 16,000 dumpster drops and junk-removal jobs since 2014, across Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, and Litchfield counties. This page is what I tell Winchester homeowners and contractors when they call.

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Winchester?

Roll-off dumpster rentals in Winchester use up-front pricing. The price doesn't change between Winsted village (Main Street) and Rugg Brook area — size sets the rate, not the address. The base rate covers delivery, pickup, dumping at a licensed transfer station, and a 7-day rental window. We don't surcharge for "longer driveways" or "harder access," and the Winchester dispatch from our West Haven yard is built into the base rate, not added on top.

Four sizes cover almost every Winchester project. The 10-yard runs $447, right for small bath remodels or concrete-and-dirt loads. The 15-yard runs $547, the sweet spot for single-room renovations and full garage cleanouts. The 20-yard runs $647, the most-common pick for whole-house decluttering, single-layer roof tear-offs, and contractor work. The 30/40-yard runs $899 — delivered as two 20-yard cans (same-day or swapped) for full additions, multi-room renovations, and commercial buildouts. Full pricing reference at How Pricing Works.

What size dumpster do I need for Winchester projects?

Single-bath remodel: 10-yard at $447. Standard Winchester bath gut. Winsted historic-district work uses the 10 for its smaller footprint on tight 19th-century blocks.

Kitchen reno or single-room remodel: 15-yard at $547. Most-common Winchester rental — Winsted's older housing stock and the residential Winchester Center generate steady kitchen-renovation work.

Whole-house decluttering, addition framing: 20-yard at $647. Mid-size renovation work outside the historic district.

Major contractor work: 30/40-yard at $899. Two 20-yard cans — useful for downtown Winsted work where a single 30 wouldn't fit.

Where can I put a dumpster in Winchester?

Winsted's downtown / historic district is the placement constraint — older 19th-century blocks with shorter driveways and preservation context. We frequently recommend the 10-yard or 15-yard for any historic-district work where a 20 wouldn't fit cleanly.

East Winsted, West Winsted, Highland Lake area, Winchester Center, Rugg Brook have suburban-rural standard driveway depths.

State route placement along Route 44, Route 183, or Route 263 needs a CT DOT Encroachment Permit instead of the town Street Use Permit.

For lawn placement, we put planks under the wheels. Minor turf compression is normal. We don't recommend lawn drops if it's been raining — soft ground doesn't hold a loaded box. Snap a photo of the driveway entrance from the street and text it to (203) 219-8855 if you're not sure about clearance or approach.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Winchester?

Winchester is about a 65-minute run from our West Haven yard via Route 8 north + Route 44 — at the outer band of our regular Litchfield County dispatch. We run Winchester jobs pure next-day default. Route 8 north traffic patterns and winter weather impacts make same-day unreliable at this distance; we schedule next-day to give you a confirmed window rather than a maybe. Winter dispatch can shift to next-day-plus on confirmed orders if road conditions deteriorate north of Waterbury — we'll call you the morning of if a storm shifts the delivery window. Delivery and pickup windows fall between 8 AM and 4 PM. Call (203) 219-8855 — live Mon–Fri 8 AM – 4 PM, AI assistant covers after-hours and weekends.

What about the Winchester Transfer Station?

Winchester / Winsted residents use the Regional Refuse Disposal District 1 (RRDD1) transfer station at 31 New Hartford Road, Barkhamsted — the facility shared with New Hartford and Barkhamsted per rrdd1.com. Phone (860) 379-1972. Hours include Monday and Wednesday 7 AM–3 PM with limited Wednesday evening access 4–7 PM. No sticker required for recyclables; sticker required for household trash.

For Winchester residents weighing self-haul against a Grizzly roll-off, the math runs roughly the same as in any Litchfield County town: a self-haul is your time, your truck, and the per-load fees the town sets at the gate. A 10-yard at $447 base delivered to your Winchester driveway, picked up, and dumped covers everything in one shot. The roll-off wins fast for anything over a couple of pickup-truck loads — and for rural Litchfield properties where the self-haul drive itself eats half a day.

The transfer station does not accept hazardous waste — paint, solvents, oil, pesticides, lithium batteries. Those go through CT DEEP collection days.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Winchester, CT?

Private property — your driveway, your land: no permit required. Standard rural Winchester case. Public street, sidewalk, or town right-of-way: coordinate with the Winchester Street Department (860) 379-4070 per townofwinchester.org. The street-permit case comes up most in downtown Winsted where tighter blocks limit private-driveway options. Historic-district placement in the Winsted historic district may have additional review. State route placement along Route 44, Route 183, or Route 263 needs a CT DOT Encroachment Permit instead.

  • Highland Lake area — lakeside residential, mid-size to longer lots

What customers in Winchester are saying

Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.

Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.

It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.
